Any recommendations for where to rent a beach wheelchair. Also, any idea where I could find the information on the size and cost? Thanks!
Submitted by Emma L, Hanover PA on July 22, 2019The wheelchairs located on the west edge of the beach are controlled by the beach patrol. They are generally put out Memorial Day weekend and removed around Labor Day. They are available 10am to 5pm on a first-come-first-serve basis and they need to stay within a block of their location. They are not allowed in the water. They are located at the Inlet Lot, 1st St., 7th St., 27th St., 30th St., 40th St., 48th St., 59th St., 70th St., 81st St., 89th St., 94th St., 107th St., 120th St., 130th St., 139th St., 145th Streets (maybe other places too). Find out more about them here.
Beach wheelchairs are also available from the Ocean City Visitors Center in the Convention Center on 40th Street for one to three days of use by advance reservation. Call 410.289.2800 for more information or to get the size of the chair.
PMI rentals rents beach wheelchairs, and they will deliver. These chairs are not self propelled and require someone to push the occupant across the beach. You can call them at 800.320.7469 to find out more including the cost and size of the chair.
Be aware that these beach wheelchairs are large and do not fold up. They require a fairly large vehicle to transport (check with the people you talk to to see if it will fit in your vehicle). The chairs on the beach locations are stored at the west side of the dunes or along the boardwalk. The chairs are also not self propelled, the person in the chair will need someone to push him or her across the beach.
There is also a new business, SandHelper, that offers self-driven electric beach wheelchairs. Find out more about by calling 855.743.5737.
Here are some photos of a beach wheelchair and SandHelper so you can see what they both look like.
We're staying at Carousel from Sep 3-6, 2019. Will there be beach umbrellas available to rent on the beach? Or do they usually shut down by then?
Submitted by Marie F, Baltimore MD on July 22, 2019Yes, you will be able to rent an umbrella on the beach. Just look for the blue or white rental boxes on the beach just over the dunes from the hotel. It will likely be attended, but if not, just call the number on the side.

Submitted by Kathy M, Hollsopple PA on July 19, 2019The beach wheelchairs that located along the beach are typically put back in storage after Labor Day. However, there are still plenty of good options for you.

Submitted by Valerie L, Joppa MD on July 19, 2019I recommend calling Holly Ridge Equestrian Center in Willards, MD. They can either board your horse or recommend a place that can meet your needs. Their number is 410.835.2596.

Submitted by Emma P, Ocean city MD on July 18, 2019Legally, I believe you can feed them anywhere providing the seagulls are not being a nuisance. In practice, I know most people do not like the seagulls being fed. The seagulls can also get very aggressive. My advice is to not feed them. They get enough French fries, funnel cake and popcorn from the boardwalk to be well fed. I have never seen a skinny sea gull!
I also see people getting pooped on all the time by the seagulls they are feeding!

Submitted by Bernadette C, Delta PA on July 18, 2019I hope your puppy feels better!
Depending on where you are staying, there are a few options. If you are in North OC, then Northside Park. If you are closer to the boardwalk, then the 94th st is a good place. If you are in West OC then Homer Gudelsky Park is a great option.
Enjoy your time in OC!

Submitted by Chelsea B, Johnstown PA on July 18, 2019My wife just drove from near Johnstown, PA to Ocean City to bring our new puppy home! She drove from Breezewood. Take Rt. 30 to Breezewood and you won't have any tolls. If you take the turnpike to Breezewood and depending on where you get on, you can expect tolls around $15. The only other toll you'll have is when you cross the bay bridge just outside of Annapolis. The toll there is $4, and you only pay it when you're headed to the beach. You don't pay going back home. So if you take the turnpike, you can plan on about $20 in tolls total. The trip took my wife just under 5 hours from the Breezewood Truck Plaza.

Submitted by John H, Hagerstown MD on July 18, 2019I have known many people who have done so and they have enjoyed having someone else drive! It doesn't stop very much and you don't have to pay the toll going east!
If you don't feel like driving the BayRunner Shuttle and a Greyhound Bus are two really good options!
Enjoy OC!
