We are visiting August 21st to the 24th. I'm wondering how much money I should budget for a 3 day trip for a family of 3. We are staying at a family members condo so we won't have to pay for lodging.

What you need to budget really depends on your tastes and what you want to do. It is fairly easy to spend a small amount in OC, but even easier to spend a lot!

I assume everyone is adults. I would budget $75 per person per day. This amount will cover food and entertainment. If you plan to go very basic on food and entertainment you can basically just budget for your typical grocery or sandwich and pizza costs, say $25 per person per day. If you on going out to nicer restaurants and having some drinks or eating out for every meal, then I'd budget about $125 per person per day. Since you have no lodging costs, you should be able to have a great time in OC for 3 days with 3 people for $800 - $1200.

Entertainment can be free or very inexpensive if you spend your day on the beach or boardwalk (checkout these free things to do).

To save some money, be sure to visit the Visitor Center at the south end of the Convention Center at 40th Street. They have tons of information and many newspapers and magazines with great discounts and coupons.

Assuming you eat out at lunch and dinner and go to the Boardwalk or do another entertainment option for some fun, I would think $500 would be plenty.

I spent around a $1000 for food and some light entertainment for a week with my family (3) so I'm guessing a little less than that should be good for you.
