Any tips for Air Show weekend? Specifically how hard is it to get space on the beach. We are staying at the Quality Inn Boardwalk.Submitted by Debbie C, Steelton PA on January 30, 2020
your hotel is a good spot to watch the air show. If you want a spot in the sand, stake out a spot early in the morning as those sots will be gone fast.
If you are at the Quality Inn in an oceanfront room, you likely can get a great view of the show from your balcony, just be sure you have an oceanfront room.
I have been to several OC Air Shows. My top tip is to spend the money to buy tickets to the Drop Zone area. It is well worth it. You can get tickets and there is usually beach space in the Drop Zone right up until the show starts at noon. I usually get there when the gates open at 9am to get a place near the front, but you get a great view of the show, with excellent narration, from anywhere in the Drop Zone.
If you want to be in a free area of the beach, you need to claim your spot early, NLT 8am, and realistically by 7am for the better spots. The further north and south you move from the center of the show at about 15th street, the later you can claim a spot. The sound system is setup so you will not be able to hear much narration if you are not in the ticketed areas.
No matter which option you pick, bring chairs, a blanket, and an umbrella. You can rent them too. We used to bring water, but now we generally just buy it there so lighten the load we haul. Don't forget the sunscreen and your camera!
hey debbie, i would show up early and get a good spot. you can get a nice spot around 14th street or as Savas mentioned about the Drop Zone. you'll love the air show it's really cool. also utilize the buses cause there will be a lot of traffic around town that weekend. visit http://www.ococean.com for more
If your staying at the Quality Inn on 16th street then your at a perfect spot. No need to go anywhere but out front on the beach and claim a spot.
My best advice is to spend the money and buy a drop zone ticket. It makes a difference if you are a true fan. There is space available all along the beach, but the drop zone is like having front row tickets.
