Harriet Tubman Park and Visitor Center

In March 2017, the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center opened to the public and immersed visitors in Tubman's world through exhibits that are informative, evocative and emotive. Understand the value of Tubman's early years in Maryland, learn about the Underground Railroad resistance movement and her work as a freedom fighter, liberator, leader and humanitarian. The interpretive video "The Life and Legacy of Harriet Tubman" compliments the exhibits by providing an overview about the history of the Underground Railroad and Tubman's connections to it while highlighting the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway.

The Visitor Center also features a gift shop, information desk, research library and a temporary exhibit space.

Outside the Visitor Center, a walking path through the legacy garden offers a place for quiet reflection and meditation. Further appreciate the life and legacy of this great American heroine by attending a ranger-led program or exploring additional sites along the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway.

The 17-acre park is adjacent is to the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and is also home to an administrative building and a 2,600 square foot open-air picnic pavilion with stone fireplace and serving area.

Ocean City is proud to be a supportive partner in this site which is of national importance. Many of our hotel packagers offer this site as a motorcoach tour site to visit while enjoying the Ocean City area and entire Eastern Shore. It also makes a great day trip as an educational stop or family reunion area as you explore the Eastern Shore near Ocean City.
