Every July, communities across the country come together to celebrate Parks & Recreation Month, recognizing the vital role public spaces play in our health, happiness, and sense of belonging. This year is extra special—the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is celebrating its 40th anniversary, right alongside the Town of Ocean City’s 150th!

As we reflect on these milestones, it’s the perfect time to appreciate how Ocean City's parks continue to shape our community, offering places to gather, play, explore, and grow.

The west block features two playgrounds, including one that’s fully inclusive, and a scenic story walk along the bayside boardwalk—perfect for fishing, crabbing, and relaxing by the water. Surrounding the green space is a looping walking path lined with benches, offering beautiful views of the bay and passing boats. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere while staying active and connected to nature.

On the east block, the park offers two basketball courts and dual-use tennis/pickleball courts available on a first-come, first-served basis, with rentals through the park office. The area also includes the Ocean Bowl Skate Park, a membership-based skate zone featuring ramps, a pool bowl, a Gnar wall, and a beginner area.

Then & Now: A Look Back

One of our favorite ways to celebrate Parks & Recreation Month is through our “Then and Now” photo series on social media. With decades of memories tucked into every corner of our parks, it’s fun (and heartwarming) to look back at how these spaces have evolved.

2025 Theme: Build Together, Play Together

This year’s national theme, “Build Together, Play Together,” captures exactly what makes Ocean City’s parks so special. They’re places where friendships are formed, families bond, and the community grows stronger—one game, one walk, and one sunset at a time.

As we honor 40 years of NRPA and 150 years of Ocean City, let’s keep building, playing, and creating memories together.
